What is the difference between "It's time I left" and "It's time I was/were going", if there is any? Vince (Advanced Language Practice) mentions both options, but he doesn't explain the difference.
Both are pretty much the same. The difference is so very fine it seems hardly worth a mention.
I guess you could argue It's time I was going is said in preparation for your leaving whereas It's time I left to highlight the fact that you are indeed leaving now.
The first one you'd say while still in the living-room and the second with your boots on all ready to go.
