Language - język (mowa).
Tongue - język (część ciała).

I tu rodzą się moje wątpliwości.
Jak powiedzieć po angielsku język ojczysty. Zawsze w szkole uczyłam się "native tongue". I kilka osób poprawiło mnie. Ale nauczyciel w szkole, jak i korepetytor używają tego wyrażenia. Znalazłam je również w dwóch podręcznikach. A w słowniku Longmana znalazłam tłumaczenie "język ojczysty - first language, native/mother tongue". Czyli mówiąc "native tongue" nie robię błędu?:) Bo kłócę się z moimi znajomymi

"The first language a human being learns to speak is his/her native language. He/She is a native speaker of this language. A first language or native language is a basis for sociolinguistic identity.

As you can see, collocation "native tongue" is not used in this quote. I'm not native speaker

anyway, so I might be wrong.

sie np urodzisz w USA, ale potem wyjedziesz i on nie bedzie Twoim 'native' chodz moze

pozostac first, czasem jednak te terminy uzywane sa zamiennie bo czasem ciezko ustalic

czy niemiecki Szwajcara jest jego native a moze first

do tego dochodza roznice

aksjologiczne....itp itd.

Jesli chodzi o same kolokacje angielskie to:

Mother tongue uzywany jest czesciej niz native tongue choc oba, wg slownika kolokacji sa rownorzędne.

Jesli chodzi o language to uzywa sie first i native, a to co nie jest first lub native staje sie second albo foreign.

Kto sie kloci nie ma racji, bo wyrazenie native tongue jest rzadsze, ale poprawne i nie ma cech dialektu.

ADJ. mother, native She speaks English and Danish, though her native tongue is German.
